In a pioneering move to bolster healthcare accessibility in Bangladesh, MedAi has launched the SMART
Health Champion Program, specifically targeting the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry's female workforce
in Savar and Mirpur. This innovative initiative has set out to empower 10 female workers, transforming
them into trained SMART Health Champions within their communities.
The program kicked off with two dynamic training sessions, where these champions-to-be were introduced to
the cutting-edge AmarDoc Digital Health app. This app is a cornerstone of the program, enabling
participants to book doctor's appointments for community members and facilitate free virtual medical
consultations—a significant stride towards bridging the healthcare gap in these regions.
But the training went beyond just navigating an app. Participants were equipped with the skills to measure vital signs—including blood pressure, pulse, blood sugar, temperature, and UTI tests. Furthermore, leveraging an AI-powered symptom collector feature, they learned how to accurately gather symptoms, a critical step in ensuring effective healthcare interventions.
The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with several champions expressing how empowered they feel by wielding AI technology to offer essential healthcare services to their communities. This sentiment underscores the transformative potential of the SMART Health Champion Program, not just in individual lives but in fostering a healthier, more resilient community
This initiative not only aims to enhance healthcare accessibility but also to instill a sense of
empowerment among female workers in the RMG industry. By equipping them with digital tools and medical
knowledge, MedAi is fostering a network of informed, capable health champions, ready to make a
difference in their communities. The success of these training sessions in Savar and Mirpur marks the
beginning of a broader movement toward democratized healthcare, one SMART Health Champion at a time.
Funded by the Roddenberry Foundation and Santander UK, throughout 2024, MedAi will train 10 SMART
Health Champions who will facilitate around 5,000 to 10,000 virtual consultations within their
communities, alleviating the healthcare access challenges these communities face.
